MANDYTM sun daisy: Flowering in remembrance
MANDYTM sun daisy (Osteospermum ‘Mandy’ PPAF) is a selection of Osteospermum found at Gulley Greenhouse in Fort Collins. Over a year was spent in selection before we asked for trialing at Plant Select.
The missing piece was a name. In February 2023, Mandy Gerace died unexpectedly. She was a leader in the green industry–the president of Colorado Nursery & Greenhouse Association (CNGA) and had worked within several different aspects of horticulture. And she loved the color pink! Beth Gulley thought the prolific pink flowering sun daisy was a perfect fit for her and her personality. So it was decided our pink sun daisy would be a tribute to an outstanding woman that would live on for years to come.
MANDYTM is a selection of the South African native perennial, Osteospermum ‘Avalanche’PP22,705. It forms a compact mat of dark green foliage with soft lavender pink blooms. It’s a prolific bloomer in spring with sporadic blooming through the rest of summer. It’s easy to deadhead the spent flowers.
Plant this Osteospermum in sun to part sun conditions with well drained soils. It is drought tolerant once established and winter hardy to Zone 4b.
It pairs well with TABLE MOUNTAIN® ice plant, KANNAH CREEK® buckwheat, LITTLE TRUDY® catmint, and mock bearberry manzanita.
MANDYTM sun daisy will add a pop of color to any space and hold a special meaning to those impacted by Mandy Gerace.
Thanks to Lauryn Schriner of Gulley Greenhouse for this plant story!
